Mumford & Sons - Awake My Soul

Still digging this album and - more specifically - this track.

In these bodies we will live, in these bodies we will die/ Where you invest your love, you invest your life/ Awake, my soul. You were made to meet your maker.

Lyrically, it’s just a powerful song that deals with the role and desires of faith. I find it fantastically ironic when the “secular” has more genuine interpretations of the “sacred.” All of the church and horrendous “christian” music in the world would make well to even attempt to reach the profound level of thought and effort in songs like this.

Them Crooked Vultures - Elephants

I’ve recently been running a lot more and this is one song that is always on my playlist. When the song actually hits, you’ve got a great beat that really helps you set your pace.

You probably already know that I think Josh Homme is underrated in the world of music. His collaboration with Dave Grohl and John Paul Jones brings out my favorite qualities in both Queens of the Stone Age and Led Zeppelin.

Thrice - All The World Is Mad

I don’t know why but I’ve been listening to these guys for the first time since high school. I guess I’m fascinated now that I’ve found out how much of their lyrics are inspired by the works C.S. Lewis.

Ice Cube - Check Yo Self (Message Remix)

There’s something more genuine and entertaining about hip-hop from twenty years ago. Then again, I think the same thing about Ice Cube himself.

Mute Math - Backfire

These guys will always be up there in my top ten. There’s just a level of musicianship found in these guys that is beyond what the vast majority of artists will ever hope to achieve.

I know that’s quite the hyperbolic statement, but I truly believe it. Just go to a live show of theirs and try to not be amazed. You won’t do too well.
